SHANA (Tehran) — Presidential Executive Deputy Mohammad-Jafar Qaem-Panah visited the Azar oil field development project in western Ilam Province on Wednesday during a two-day trip to the region.

The Azar oil field has a nominal annual production capacity of 23.5 million barrels of crude oil. Current production stands at approximately 7.5 million barrels per year, according to IRNA.

More than 1,200 people are directly employed at the site.

Total investment in the project has exceeded €1.258 billion. Development work began in 2011, and the first phase has now been completed, government officials said. Work is continuing on the second phase of the project.

The Azar oil field is one of Iran’s key oil development projects and is located in Ilam Province near the country’s western border.
