Iranian Engineer Elected by US's National Academy of Engineering

TEHRAN Mar 08(Shana) - Iranian-born Iraj Ershaghi from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, has been elected by the American National Academy of Engineering "for contributions to characterization of complex fractured reservoirs, and for leadership in university-industry collaboration".

The American NAE association has elected 67 new members among whom is Ershaghi, a petroleum engineering graduate of the University of Tehran, who has made innumerable contributions to the university over the past four decades.

He has been hailed many times as a senior petroleum engineer: in 2012 he received the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ highest distinction, the Honorary Member Award, and in 2010, the John Franklin Carll Medal.

Ershghi is regarded as one of the most renowned petroleum engineers in the US after leading over 27 years the USC Petroleum Engineering Program.

The Iranian-born American scientist, Ershaghi, has also helped establish a number of innovative programs in the curriculum, including the US's first and only master’s in petroleum engineering in smart oilfield technology.

He is also co-director of CiSoft, a partnership between USC Viterbi and the Chevron Corp., and has played an integral role in its success by helping to build teams of university scholars, scientists and students to undertake important research.
