Fast-tracking projects through smart management

SHANA (Tehran) – The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) emphasized the need to prioritize major projects, including the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged during the Third Imposed War, saying that precise resource management, strict adherence to safety standards and maximizing the potential of human capital are key factors in ensuring projects are completed on time.

According to NIGC, CEO Saeid Tavakoli made the remarks during a visit to the Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company, where he stressed the importance of accelerating project execution through a value-creation approach focused on energy efficiency, cost savings, optimized implementation, and the timely procurement of equipment.

Referring to the country's heavy reliance on natural gas for electricity generation, industrial operations, petrochemical production, exports and household consumption, Tavakoli said that in times of energy imbalance, careful project prioritization is the only effective management strategy. He noted that gas was injected into 774 kilometers of pipelines last year based on this approach.

Tavakoli described the current year as an exceptional and decisive year in the history of Iran’s gas industry. He highlighted the importance of accurate scheduling, contract adjustments, project requirements and workforce management, adding that the new generation of employees possesses strong analytical capabilities and expertise that should be fully utilized under current challenging conditions.

Safety Standards Are Non-Negotiable

Underscoring the importance of protecting pipeline corridors and resisting any reduction in safety requirements, Tavakoli said safety standards remain a red line for NIGC. He added that any project carried out near gas pipelines must incorporate the necessary safety measures from the design stage onward.

He also called for faster administrative procedures and the referral of critical projects to the national gas headquarters. Highlighting the significance of refinery reconstruction projects, Tavakoli warned that delays could result in substantial financial losses for the country. He said timely and standards-compliant execution reflects the technical and organizational maturity, credibility and reputation of NIGC.

Commitment to Legal Procedures and Standards

The deputy oil minister for gas affairs stressed that time is a decisive factor in certain projects, particularly reconstruction efforts. He said reviewing and reassessing project issues can help accelerate implementation and improve effectiveness.

Tavakoli noted that some challenges are linked to broader national policies and emergency conditions. He said the economic losses caused by project delays are considerable and that the company must focus on urgent and effective actions. All reports and claims, he added, should be evaluated based on whether projects can be completed on schedule, in compliance with standards and at a reasonable cost.

Emphasizing the need for integrated management, Tavakoli urged managers to avoid the “illusion of knowledge” and instead listen to expert opinions. He said informed and practical decision-making, supported by greater coordination and synergy, is essential to delivering projects successfully.
