US drilling activity rebounded slightly, up by 4 rotary rigs to 1,744 working this week, compared with 1,639 in the same period a year ago.

The bulk of the gain was in land drilling, up by 5 rigs with 1,640 making hole. Inland waters drilling increased by 1 rig to 29. That was partly offset by the loss of 2 rigs to 75 working offshore, including 74 in the Gulf of Mexico.

 

Texas had the biggest surge in drilling activity this week, up by 11 rigs to 830. Colorado, New Mexico, and Wyoming added 1 rig each for respective totals of 110, 79, and 71. Oklahoma was unchanged with 182 rotary rigs working. Louisiana lost 7 rigs, with 177 still drilling. California and Alaska were down 1 rig each to 32 and 7, respectively.

 

Canada"s weekly rig count increased by 18 to 121 units, down from 267 a year ago.
