South Pars Gas Condensate Sweetening Project 42% Complete

TEHRAN, Jan. 10 (Shana) – The director of a Gas Condensate Demercaptanization (DMC) Project at South Pars Phases 2 and 3 refineries said the project has so far made 42% progress.

Sirous Peikar said the project is expected to come online in the second half of the next Iranian calendar year which begins on March 21.

He said the facility is 60% complete in engineering, 49.5% in item procurement and 32.1% in construction sections.

Nowadays, gas condensates sweetening is used solely to prepare them for transportation. Requirements for mercaptan removal from gas condensate are applied only to light most corrosive methyl and ethyl mercaptan, total content must not exceed 0.004% wt.

Gas condensates are sweetened from light (C1-C2) mercaptans by extraction with alkaline solutions and subsequent regeneration of alkali in the presence of phthalocyanine catalyst and oxygen. The resulting disulfides are not separated from gas condensate. Thus, concentration of sulfur compounds in gas condensate remains unchanged.
