Iran Bracing to Enhance Gas Trade: Official

TEHRAN, Dec. 31 (Shana) – The CEO of the Iranian Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC) said the company is launching new gas transmission projects across Iran that will facilitate the country's international gas trade.

Hassan Montazer Torbati said the required infrastructure for completing the gas distribution network within the Iranian territory has been prepared, making the country ready for boosting gas trade with international customers.

"Given the fact that Iran enjoys the world's largest proven gas reserves and its geographical advantages for being close to major gas producers and consumers, it can turn into a major hub for gas trade in the world," the official added.

He said the gas distribution network in Iran will be complete within the next 5 years, adding once the project is complete new trade arenas will be open to Iran.

"If necessary we will be able to receive gas from countries like Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Qatar and send it to Pakistan, Kuwait, Iraq, Turkey or even Europe," he added.
