Iran 2nd Largest Owner of Gas-Run Cars in World

TEHRAN, Oct. 31 (Shana) – Iran holds the world's second largest fleet of gas-run cars after China, a senior oil official says.

Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh told the 7th ANGVA Biennial International conference and Exhibition (ANGVA 2017) here in Tehran on Tuesday that over 16% of the world's gas-run cars are in Iran.

He said the event is a palatable opportunity which can set the ground for introduction of Iran's achievements and capabilities in compressed natural gas (CNG) industry and enhancing collaborations with internationally active companies in the field.

"The conference can also pave the way for the cooperation of Iran's organizations active in the field with their international opposite numbers," the official said.

Iran sit atop the world's largest natural gas reserves with an estimated volume of 34 trillion cubic meters.

Zangeneh said the country expects to bring its natural gas output to a billion cubic meters per day once new phases of the supergiant South Pars Gas Field come on-stream.

Nearly 98% of Iran's urban population and over 70% of its rural population has access to natural gas for heating and cooking.
