NIOC Engaged in Parallel Talks for Developing Giant Farzad B Gas Field

TEHRAN, Sep. 03 (Shana) -- The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) is in three parallel discussions with developers for concluding a deal to develop the giant Farzad B gas field project.

An NIOC official involved in the talks, Karim Zobeidi, said negotiations are advancing with Indians, despite the fact that the results are not satisfactory yet.

He said preliminary discussions over the joint field that is estimated to hold reserves of almost 19 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, have begun with a Russian company as well, but refrained from disclosing its name.

"Parallel with these two negotiations, NIOC is also in talks with Petropars as well as a foreign counsel on an appraisal project for developing Farzad A and B projects and injection of their fields' gas to Aghajari oilfield," he added.

Even if the result of these studies are promising and positive, "it does not mean that Petropars will be necessarily awarded development of the project," Zobeidi stressed.

India's ONGC Videsh Ltd, which includes Indian Oil Corp. and Oil India Ltd., has been trying to secure development rights to the Farzad-B gas field since at least 2009.
