RIPI Offers Adsorption Pilot Scheme for Gas Refineries

TEHRAN, Aug. 09 (ُShana) — The Research Center of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) has developed an adsorption pilot scheme for gas refineries to be installed at Parsian Refinery.

Ordered by the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) 4 years ago, the scheme is aimed at facilitating separation operations in gas refineries.
Adsorption is the adhesion of atoms, ions, or molecules from a gas, liquid, or dissolved solid to a surface.
This process creates a film of the adsorbate on the surface of the adsorbent. Adsorption is a surface-based process while absorption involves the whole volume of the material. Adsorption is a surface phenomenon.
Regarding the study, Akbar Zamanian, director of RIPI's downstream faculty, said project was aimed at developing the technical savvy for providing the process in gas refineries in order to remove harmful compounds in gas stream.
He said the project was ordered to RIPI 4 years ago and it is now being tested at RIPI for the first time in Iran. Previously works on the project were only carried out on laboratory scheme.
He said the pilot test will be carried out at Parsian Refinery.
