No South Pars Flaring by 2019

TEHRAN, June 19 (Shana) -- Iran says it will be flaring no natural gas at the refineries of the supergiant South Pars Gas Field by 2019.

Director of production control at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Gholamreza Bahman-Nia said all the gas flares in the gas field's refining facilities will stop operating by 2019.

A gas flare, alternatively known as a flare stack, is a gas combustion device used in industrial plants such as petroleum refineries, chemical plants, natural gas processing plants as well as at oil or gas production sites having oil wells, gas wells, offshore oil and gas rigs and landfills.

Given the value of natural gas, companies would rather captures it than to flare it unless under emergencies in order to prevent catastrophes, he said.

The official said today technologies at South Pars refineries have developed that the gas is no longer needed to be flared and can be captured and injected in the national gas distribution network.
