Phase 21 Flare Lit

TEHRAN, Aug 02 (Shana) -- The flare of phase 21 platform of the supergiant South Pars Gas Field was lit on Monday evening, three days after its installation over the offshore phase.

Beginning on Thursday, the platform's installation completed Friday night and its HP flare was lit immediately after installation.

The project came on-stream by the Oil Industries' Engineering and Construction (OIEC).

Construction of the platform was awarded to OIEC by Pars Oil and Gas Company.

Earlier, operator of phases 20 and 21 of the gas field Hamid Reza Mahdavi had said that drilling operations over phase 21 came to an end last summer with 11 wells ready for production.

The 2,700-ton mega-structure can recover over a billion cubic feet of natural gas on a daily basis and is the 21st platform of the gas field to be installed in Persian Gulf waters.

The platform was carried from Khorramshahr Yard by Oceanic 5,000.

Oceanic 5000 is a state-of-the-art crane/pipe lay vessel operated by dedicated and experienced crew. The vessel has two double joint plants which produces fast installation results in waters depth up to 300m.

Over the course of the past 1.5 months, platform 19C of the gas field was also installed.

Installation of new platforms means more gas recovery from the South Pars for Iran. The country shares the field with Qatar in Persian Gulf waters.

Currently Iran recovers 430 mcm/d of gas from its share of the field.

5 more platforms are planned to be erected over the field by the end of the current calendar year to March 2017, which will add 100 mcm/d to the field's output.
