Iran Nears Self-Sufficiency in Gasoline Production

TEHRAN Jan 04 (Shana)--The country has approached self-sufficiency in gasoline production after Esfahan oil refinery raised gasoline output recently, managing director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) Abbas Kazemi said.

Speaking to Shana, Kazemi said in case of launching ongoing gasoline production plan at Bandar Abbas oil refinery early next Iranian calendar year, beginning March 21 2015, Iran will achieve self-sufficiency in gasoline production even before Persian Gulf Star oil refinery starts operation.

“Bandar Abbas oil refinery’s upgrading plan which will be launched up to next June and will contribute to raising total gasoline production capacity of the country”, Kazemi told Shana.

Kazemi further noted that average gasoline imports of the country stand at 4.5 million liters per day.

Recently Esfahan oil refinery could raise its gasoline production capacity from 11.5 million liters to 13.7 million liters per day.

Rising gasoline production plan at Esfahan oil refinery passes necessary tests now and will start normal operations in next five days.
