DOE Chief Hails Dangerous Fuel Production Halt

TEHRAN June 10 (Shana)--The head of the Department of the Environment (DOE) has hailed the halt in production of gasoline by petrochemical plants.

Masoumeh Ebtekar said the halt in petrochemical plants’ gasoline production is a national achievement.
She said that the gasoline produced by petrochemical plants was “carcinogenic” and “dangerous”.
Ebtekar said euro-4 gasoline is to be distributed in all big cities by December.
Meanwhile, Abdollah Fazlalizadeh, head of Iran Association of Cancer, said air pollution has fallen to an acceptable level with the elimination of petrochemical gasoline.
“Chemical aromatics and benzene are very dangerous and carcinogenic. Inhaling a bit of them will cause numerous problems for human’s respiratory system,” he said.
